Thanks for the leaders of the American Heritage Girls in Ft. Myers for asking me to contribute something toward their meetings. Here is a ceremonial bridge that the girls will cross over to help them remember their creed.
I made the decking from recycled pallet lumber. I found a couple of nice, old oak ones that finished well. My compliments to Steve Jackson for his craftsmanship on the pallet walls in this room.
Cut off the top boards of the pallet.
I see oak.
This weathering and texture will be planed off.
Smooth.
One coat of Danish oil.
The first joists were made from 2 x 12.
Only 24″ wide but I used three joists for a sturdy walk.
Too steep. I discarded the joists and made new ones out of 2 x 10s.
New, lower joists made from a 2×8.
Pre-drilled and countersunk the edges to prevent splitting.
I used a projector and hand-traced the words in pencil.
Wood burned the outlines.
Then filled in with a flat wedge wood burner tip.
Walk the talk.
