Garden Benches

Cypress bench, Jacksonville botanical garden. The source of my inspiration.

Stack of rough cypress lumber bought from Florida Cypress, Jacksonville.

Java Plum board with pecky cypress plank.

Pecky cypress cut to fit as bench back.

Weathered gray. There are about 50 rings here.

I felt like a dummy, preserving a board that is over 100 years old.

Java Plum boards have red/mahogany tint.

Danish oil intensifies the grain.

These armrests came from the same Live Oak plank.

Again, the oil improves the contrast of the grain. I left the dark weathering on parts.

Experimenting with the back placement.

I drilled and counter-sunk every screw and bolt. I used stainless steel decking screws on the seat. Ceramic coated lag bolts on the frame.

Finished project.
