Tropical Plant International Expo (TPIE)

Just once a year, FNGLA hosts this colorful trade show in Fort Lauderdale. Here are some plant highlights I saw yesterday.

Not as blue as the carpet…
Glitter-tipped sansevierias?
Growers bring their best and are there for sales and advice.
Two vendors came from Canada with their cool weather plants
Bullis bromeliads is always a show stopper.
This variegated homalomena got my vote for best new plant
‘Praying Hands’ banana flower spike (upside down) sold as a cut flower.
Very bumpy begonia
Used to be called oak leaf, miniature creeping fig. Now String of Frogs. (Their typo.)
Every year they come up with redder aglaonemas.
A new evergreen caladium
Yep, they dyed these moth orchid flowers.
Too blue to be true. Real plant, fake color.
Not tropical but very colorful bedding plants.
‘Constellation’ is still expensive.
The tallest “plant” in the room is dead. Real branches but silk flowers got my attention.
Orchid seedlings and clones from Thailand.
40 to 50 plants per bottle. 2-3 years old. Time to break out.
Exotic, wood carvings.
Um, why did you dip your plants in fluorescent flocking?
Dramatic venation in the new plants area.
Tillandsias suspended.
