Water Lily Mosaic

I found a painting of water lilies, then found a round frame to compliment the leaf shapes. Away we go.

I used Mexican smalti for their rich color and dyed the gray grout black for the stained-glass effect. The frame was a thrift store clock that worked perfect as a deep base.

Craft paper is the base and the tiles are glued, face down, with water/flour paste, one by one.
Smalti (tiles) are matte on one side and gloss on the reverse.
Sorting by shades before cutting and placing.
I removed the old clock works and lense to make room for 1/4″ tile mounted on 1/4″ base.
Applying tile adhesive to the base. Then flip the glued creation face first into it.
Done, before grouting.
Gray grout mixed with black iron oxide powder.
Carefully work it into the surface, careful of sharp edges.
Ready to wipe off.
Done.
White grout would brighten this up but I want the stained-glass effect.
Done. The individual art light completes the scene.
