Sunflowers are the fireworks of the garden. They shoot up high and give a big, bright splash in the sky, then fade quickly. During that week-and-a-half of full bloom, everybody says “Oooh, aaah!” We grew each one of these in our front and back yard over the years. Fall seems to be the best time to plant them because the pounding rain and winds of summer are too rough on these top-heavy squirrel feeders.
This website is dedicated to learning the names of plants but this page is lacking that detail. Some of these sunflowers came in an unnamed mix, others were volunteers. I bought seeds from the following companies: www.johnnyseeds.com www.seedsofchange.com and www.swallowtailgardenseeds.com .
